Hello Reader,

Another week, and another set of crazy moves by Instagram. This time round though it could actually be fixing some of the issues. More on that in a bit.

UGC Is not a trend.

UGC or user generated content has been around for a while and the reason it works so well is because of the fundamental principal that “people connect with people.

The fact is People trust UGC content more. It’s social proof.

TikTok is the champion of UGC content. The growth on the platform doesn’t seem to be slowing. Their domain now gets more visits than Google! TikTok is a fine example of just how many people are wanting raw UGC style content. Traditional digital marketing ads don’t work on TikTok the user base isn’t a fan. We’ve seen this trend starting to gain momentum over on Instagram as well.

While UGC hasn’t replaced traditional digital marketing, the users have spoken.

Being the smart marketer, you are (why else would you be subscribed to marketrnotes), you’ll read this and start to come up with ways of creating some UGC styled content for yourselves.

Instagram testing a new crop

Oh, Instagram is there ever a week where you aren’t trying something to turn things around. Ok that’s a bit harsh.

There are a few reports and Instagram as come out a confirmed this, that they are testing out a 9:16 crop for image posts.

This looks like they are slowly working towards unifying your content and creating a consistent feed/profile. The TikTok *cough cough*, I mean REELs feed is 9:16 so this could see a unified profile where images and REEL’s can live together in one happy space.

This one we’ll just have to wait and see.

SEO: Finding your primary keywords.

SEO is a massive task that yields amazing results, but like most things the foundations are what makes difference to your SEO journey. Finding the right keywords, the obtainable keywords is key to that success. This is a wonderful way to dip your toe in the SEO pond and find some keywords you can start to rank for.

One of the first things to do is find your ‘primary keywords’. Use a tool like the Google Keyword Planner (free) to research your keywords. You want to find keywords that have a low-medium competition score but a high Avg. Monthly Searches volume.

Just keep in mind though your keywords need to be related.

Bit Sized News

  • Google, Meta, and Amazon are seeing the growth of digital advertising revenue slow down.
  • Tumblr is back. We touched on this buy Vouge has come out and said the “2014 Tumblr Girl is Back”, oh and direct ad sales rose 230%.

Till next time,
